Anne Murray
April 2016
To Anne, the CGC is her second home. She’s often here for up to 3 hours a day, which includes the time she takes to catch up with members on her way in and out. Just spend a few minutes with Anne, a retired Physical Education teacher, coach and athlete, and you’ll quickly feel her passion for sport and active play. On any given day you can find her challenging youth to a basketball game in the Field House or inspiring a dry land athlete who’s learning to swim. While Anne is most excited about access to the basketball courts, she uses all areas of the Centre during her workouts. “There are no other facilities in HRM that offer the choices available here at the Canada Games Centre” says Anne. She trains at the Centre in the off-season to get ready for her sea kayak business to open and is currently training for a paddleboard trip to Quebec this summer. You can also find her enjoying some of the competitive events at the CGC which often involve children and people of all ages. The CGC is certainly known as “the place to play.” Anne also enjoys the library, learning to play piano and spending time with family. In her spare time, Anne is an active volunteer who recently travelled to Haiti to spread the joy of sport and play. “I want to teach and share my sports knowledge with the local sports association.” She also distributed sports equipment and cleats collected here at home before her trip. "In September, I will be bringing a young man, Ricardo, from Haiti, here to the CGC, to learn from us." She looks forward to sharing her love of the Centre with Ricardo when he visits this fall. Anne invites you all to join them in play when he’s here.
