What a finish! Summer Provincials & Big Swim 2021 Results

Summer Provincial Championships
Although it was an unusual competitive season this year, the CGC Swim Academy Summer Swim Team persevered and had a strong finish. Summer time trials and the David Fry Provincial Championships were held individually at each swim team’s home pool instead of big multi-team meets. CGCSA Summer Swimmers competed on August 12th-14th, bringing home 47 medals. They also broke 5 club records and set a new provincial record!
Provincial Record:
- Alfred Lai set a Provincial Record in the Boys 11-12 100 Individual Medley with a time of 1:20.71. Congratulations Alfred!
New Club Records:
- Boys 11-12 100 Individual Medley – Alfred Lai (1:20.71)
- Boys 11-12 400 Freestyle – Alfred Lai (5:41.83)
- Boys 11-12 4×50 Freestyle Relay – Alex Wang, Michael Liang, Ben Wang, Alfred Lai (2:18.36)
- Boys 11-12 4×50 Medley Relay – Jack Quinton, Alex Wang, Alfred Lai, Michael Liang (2:31.56)
- Girls 13-14 200 Freestyle – Senali Jayawarna (2:46.26)
Age Group High Point Award Winner:
- Alfred Lai was the 11-12 Boys Age Group High Point Winner
Medal Count Summary:
- 15 Gold, 16 Silver, and 16 Bronze Medals, with 15 athletes earning medals in individual events.
- Two swimmers won medals in every event that they swam: Neil Wang (10 medals), Alfred Lai (8 medals)
- CGCSA also swept the podium (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) in 6 different events: Boys 11-12 200 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 50 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley and Boys 13-14 400 Freestyle

Big Swim 2021
Following up on their May member profile, we want to send congratulations out to Taylor and Heidi, CGC Swim Academy athletes on completing the Big Swim 2021 on August 8th, 2021. Their families cheered from the shore as Taylor swam the 12km route and Heidi swam the 8km route across the Bras D’or Lake in Baddeck. The cousins raised over $4,100 in support of Brigadoon Village—enough to send three kids to camp. Way to go Taylor & Heidi!
